International Conference on Machine Learning and Data Engineering
All accepted papers will be published in Procedia Computer Science Journal, Elsevier
The worldwide conference on Machine Learning and Data Engineering (ICMLDE 2022) is an international venue for the presentation of original research findings, as well as the exchange and dissemination of creative, practical development experiences in various engineering domains. Researchers and application developers from a wide range of artificial and data engineering-related fields, as well as their techniques and applications of current issues in practically all sectors of engineering and technology, attend the conference.
This conference aims to broaden its scope in the areas of Machine Learning and Data Engineering by including expert speeches and presentations from young researchers in each session. The conference aims to enhance the state-of-the-art in Machine Learning and Data Engineering, as well as other promising areas of computing, by encouraging fresh, high-quality research discoveries and inventive solutions to tough machine learning challenges. Researchers, academicians, and professionals from all over the world are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers from all perspectives, including theory, practice, experimentation, and review papers highlighting specific research domains for presentation in the conference's technical sessions.
The conference will create a cross-disciplinary summit that will bridge the gap between departmental, institutional, industrial, public and private research organizations, and global barriers, allowing for the integration of research and education in the emerging field of Machine Learning and Data Engineering.
All ICMLDE 2022 accepted papers will be included by Elsevier in the open-access Procedia Computer Science Journal. Procedia Computer Science is indexed in Scopus, the Web of Science, INSPEC, and Engineering Village. All published papers in Procedia Computer Science are freely available on Elsevier content platform ScienceDirect (www.sciencedirect.com)

Prof. Vijayan Asari is the University of Dayton Ohio Research Scholars Endowed Chair in Wide Area Surveillance and a professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is also the director of the Center of Excellence for Computational Intelligence and Machine Vision (Vision Lab). Dr. Asari began teaching as an assistant professor in electronics and communications at TKM College of Engineering, University of Kerala, India. In 1996, he joined the National University of Singapore as a Research Fellow and led a team for the development of a vision-guided microrobotic endoscopy system. In 1998, he joined the School of Computer Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and led the computer vision and image processing research activities in the Center for High Performance Embedded Systems at NTU. In August 2000, Dr. Asari joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Old Dominion University (ODU), Norfolk, Virginia, as a visiting associate professor. In 2001, at ODU, he accepted a tenure track position in electrical and computer engineering. He was tenured in 2006 and promoted to full professor in May 2007. At ODU, he was also the founding director of the Computational Intelligence and Machine Vision Laboratory. Dr. Asari joined the University of Dayton in February 2010. He has received many awards for his teaching, research and leadership including the Vision Award for Excellence in August 2017, Sigma Xi George B. Noland Award in April 2016, and the Outstanding Engineers and Scientists Award for Technical Leadership in April 2015. Dr. Asari has been selected as a Fulbright Specialist by the Fulbright Specialist Program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and World Learning in August 2017. He was elected as a Fellow of SPIE (Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers) in November 2018. Dr. Asari has published and co-authored with his graduate students and colleagues, more than 600 research articles, including an edited book on wide area surveillance and more than 100 peer-reviewed journal papers, in the areas of image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, deep learning and high performance digital system architecture design.
João Paulo Papa has been a Professor in the Computer Science Department, So Paulo, State University since 2009. From 2008–to 2009, he had worked as a postdoctorate researcher at the same institute, and from 2014–2015 he worked as a visiting scholar at Harvard University. He was also the recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt research fellowship in 2017. He received a Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Campinas, SP, Brazil. He is currently associate editor of Computers & Electrical Engineering, Computers in Biology and Medicine, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, International Journal of Bio-Inspired Computation, and Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering. He has been a visiting professor at the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule (Germany), as well as a Fellow at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation supported by Capes, a Brazilian representative at the International Association for Pattern Recognition (ICPR), and a senior IEEE member. He was a member of the Special Commission for Computer Graphics and Image Processing (CEGRAPI) in the period 2015-2018. He has experience in the field of Computer Science, with an emphasis on Computer Systems, working mainly on the topics: image processing, machine learning, and pattern recognition. He also participates in projects in the field of Petroleum Engineering at the Center for Geosciences Applied to Petroleum (UNESPETRO), Unesp/Rio Claro.
Siddhartha (Sid) Bhattacharyya is Professor and Head of the Information and Decision Sciences Department in the College of Business at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He has broad experience in business analytics, machine learning and data-intensive applications, and technology management. His research has addressed areas like machine learning in financial markets, fraud detection, marketing analytics; agent-based models of electronic markets, energy markets regulation, information processing in social networks; evolutionary algorithms. Sid’s work has been supported by the National Science Foundation and private organizations, and he has published numerous papers in various journals and conferences. He is the founding Director of the MS Business Analytics program at UIC, where he also initiated the Center for Applied Analytics to drive industry partnerships. He has received multiple teaching awards, and currently teaches courses in business data mining.
Dr. Mohit Kumar Goel is currently working as Director, Data Science at Bold Technologies. Over the past 12 years of his career, he has designed and implemented Data Science strategies for multiple domains such as recruitment, telecom, neuroscience, operations, medical imaging, finance, radar imaging and steel rolling mills. Prior to Bold Technologies, he was working with Info Edge India Ltd. as a Vice President Data Science. The key projects executed at Infoedge includes lead scoring, search relevance, spam detection, candidate recommendations, query auto completion, parsing and machine reading comprehension. At Impetus Infotech, he led a big data project for a US based telecom client and achieved an ROI within 6 months of execution. His PhD work at EPFL involved designing systems to collect, label and classify the EEG data, i.e. implementing an end-to-end data science system. His technical stack includes Python, R, SQL, Machine Learning libraries (sklearn, TensorFlow, transformer), GIT, databases (MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch). I was born in Noida (Uttar Pradesh) and brought up in Ranchi and Rourkela. He did B.Tech from IIT, Kharagpur and PhD from EPFL, Switzerland. Some of the prominent awards received during his career are NTSE, KVPY, 1st Rank in National Cyber Olympiad, Best algorithm award in Robotix at IIT Kharagpur, Employee of the month award at Impetus and “We Value You” Award at Info edge.
Nitendra works as the Vice President and Head of AI Garage in Mastercard. He has over 20 years of experience in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Mobile Interactions. He has authored over 100 publications at top international ACM and IEEE venues, owing to which he has been recognized as an ACM Distinguished Scientist, ACM Distinguished Speaker (2014) and a senior IEEE Member. He has delivered several tutorials and conducted workshops in AI and speech areas at top ACM venues (MobileHCI, IUI, CSCW, CHI). With over 50 granted patents to his name, Nitendra was an IBM Master Inventor and was also an IBM Academy of Technology member. In 2012, he coauthored a book titled "Speech in Mobile and Pervasive Environments" that was published by John Wiley & Sons. Before joining Mastercard, he spent 18 years at IBM Research, working on different aspects of machine learning, HCI, software engineering and mobile sensing. He then spent 2.5 years at InfoEdge as EVP and Head of Analytics from 2017 to 2019. Nitendra holds a Masters degree in Signal Processing from IIT Bombay. Nitendra is also an Ironman 70.3 finisher, a grade-3 Trinity guitar player, blind-folded Rubik’s cube solver and advanced meditation practitioner and teacher.
Danilo Pelusi received the Ph.D. degree in Computational Astrophysics from the University of Teramo, Italy. He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences, University of Teramo. Editor of books in Springer and Elsevier and Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence (2017-2020), IEEE Access (2018-present), IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (2022-present). Guest editor for Elsevier, Springer, MDPI and Hindawi journals, he belongs to the editorial board member of many journals. Keynote speaker and chair of IEEE conferences and inventor of patents on Artificial Intelligence, his research interests include Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks, Information Theory, Machine Learning and Evolutionary Algorithms.
IBM Resource Persons, IBM Research Lab, India
Dr. Saswati Dana is an Advisory Research Engineer at IBM, India Research Lab, Bangalore. She is a key team member of the AI reasoning team and works on research problems of machine learning, natural language processing, and machine question-answering. She has published papers in various peer-reviewed reputed international journals and top international conferences such as ACL, AAAI, and ESWC. She received her Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in Applied Mathematics.
Dhiraj Madan is an Advisory Research Engineer and IBM quantum Ambassador at IBM research India. He works on research problems in quantum computing and machine learning with publications in top international conferences such as NeurIPS, EMNLP, ECAI, IJCNLP, QIP, and APS March Meeting. He has also conducted several tutorial sessions on quantum algorithms including a lecture at a course on NPTEL. Prior to joining IBM Research, he completed his master’s in computer science and Engineering from IITD where he graduated with an institute silver medal.
Prerna Agarwal is currently working as a Research Engineer in IBM Research India. She is currently leading projects in the area of AI-driven Optimization for business processes and AI for Social Good. She did a Master's in Data Science from IIIT Delhi and received an award for her thesis work. She completed her bachelor's in Computer Science from Jamia Millia Islamia and received Gold Medal for her outstanding performance. Her research interests lie in Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, and Machine Learning. She has published papers in top-tier conferences on the core technology of AI and filed several patents. She has also delivered several faculty development programs in eminent institutions like IIT Roorkee, DTU, etc, and is a part of the Women in Machine Learning Society. She has been a recipient of many awards including external eminence and recognition awards for her contributions toward building AI capabilities for business processes. Her passion is to build real AI capabilities for underprivileged and exploited groups and have tie-ups with many such NGOs.
Dr. Anupama Ray is an Advisory Research Scientist at IBM Research, India. She is an IBM Quantum Ambassador and a Qiskit Advocate. She completed her Ph.D from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Her doctoral research focussed on developing and applying multi-dimensional deep recurrent neural networks for document analysis and computer vision applications. At IBM Research she has been predominantly working in the area of natural language processing: building NLP systems for low-resource languages, domain-independent information extraction systems, and natural language generation. She has interests in Quantum ML, Quantum NLP, and AI for societal applications. She has published several papers in top-tier conferences and journals and has received several Best paper awards. She has been the recipient of the IEEE Best Woman Professional (Early Career) and several awards at IBM Research such as Research Division Award, Eminence and Excellence Award, and Outstanding Technical Achievement Award to name a few. She was nominated and selected as a Young Scientist in Global Young Scientist Summit and is an active member of IEEE, AAAI, and Society of Women Engineers (SWE) India.
Venkatraman Ramakrishna is a senior researcher in the IBM Research Lab in Bangalore, India. As an IBMer, he has also been on a temporary assignment as a research staff member at the IBM Center for Blockchain Innovation in Singapore.Ramakrishna's current research area is blockchain and smart contracting technology, with a focus on blockchain and distributed ledger interoperability. His other interests in this area include performance, security, and privacy aspects of blockchain. He has been involved in the development and testing of applications on the Hyperledger Fabric platform since its genesis in late 2015. He has led the design and implementation of seminal use cases in the areas of trade-finance and KYC on the Fabric platform to serve prominent international banks and corporations. He has also led research and development in the performance measurement and analysis of Fabric and its applications. And he is a co-author of a practical guidebook for development on Hyperledger Fabric titled Hands-On Blockchain with Hyperledger: Building decentralized applications with Hyperledger Fabric and Composer.Ramakrishna joined the IBM India Research Lab as a Researcher in April 2011. Before joining IBM Research, he was a member of the Microsoft Bing Infrastructure team in Redmond, WA, USA. Ramakrishna graduated with a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 2001. Subsequently he obtained an M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA, where his advisor was Professor Peter Reiher. His doctoral dissertation is titled "Policy Management and Interoperation Through Negotiation in Ubiquitous Computing".Before joining the blockchain team in the India Lab, Ramakrishna was a member of the Telecom Research Group at IRL, and worked on projects that spanned the areas of mobile commerce, mobile and back-end analytics, security, identity management, and social networking. His research interests lay in the areas of mobile and ubiquitous computing, security, blockchain and smart contracts technology, an cloud technology.
Dr. Prabhat Shankar is a Senior R&D Engineer at Industrial Automation and Process Industries Division at ABB Ability Innovation Center, Bangalore. He holds a Bachelor’s and master’s degree in electrical engineering and Instrumentation from IIT Kharagpur and a Ph.D. in Computational Biology from RIKEN Japan. He is working towards applying Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence techniques to industrial automation and Predictive Maintenance, which include Fault Prediction, Remaining Useful Life estimation, Time series forecasting, and related discipline. His broad interests lie in the field of providing robust solutions to challenging industrial problems. In his previous roles, he has worked with ABB Robotics, where he worked on optimizing pick and place operations using Reinforcement learning.
A. Guidelines for Paper Submission
(1) Authors are invited to submit their paper electronically using a proceedings template written in English, with a length of up to 10 pages, a full paper presenting the results of original research or an innovative paper, and a short paper that is partially completed with a theoretically established idea to practical applications relevant to the conference. Over the ten (10) page limit, additional pages per paper will be charged.
(2) All submissions must be made electronically through the editorial manager/Submission Management System, and all accepted and presented papers will be included in Procedia Computer Science Journal, Elsevier for possible publication and indexing in databases such as ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Scholar, INSPEC, Web of Science, and Journal Citation Report (JCR), among others.
